Boothferry Division

Boothferry Division is a relatively small, primarily rural area, stretching about 15 miles along the M62 corridor from Pollington in the West to Newport in the East. In recent years it has been expanded to include the North Yorkshire villages of Camblesforth and Carlton making the narrow strip about 6 miles wide at this point. It is bisected by the River Ouse and is centred on the inland port of Goole which was created just over 100 years ago.

The other communities in the area are the small historic market towns of Howden and Snaith together with a number of small villages, most of which are too small to support a Unit. The southern part of the Division is the relatively unpopulated but appropriately named Marshland.

Places of interest within the Division are Goole Waterways Museum, Howden Minster and Carlton Towers. There is also a Leisure Centre in Goole and a Sports Centre in Snaith.

The Division is divided into three Districts, which take the names of the towns of Goole, Howden and Snaith:

  • Goole District is situated at the centre of the Division and includes the villages of Hook, Airmyn, Swinefleet and Reedness. There are two Rainbow Units, five Brownie Units and one Guide Unit in Goole District.
  • Howden District is in the East of the Division and includes the villages of Newport, Gilberdyke, Eastrington and Wressle. There are two Brownie Units and two Guide Units within the District.
  • Snaith District in the West includes the villages of Rawcliffe, Cowick, Pollington Gowdall, Carlton, Camblesforth and Drax. There are two Rainbow Units, four Brownie Units and two Guide Units in the District.

The Young Leaders in the Division meet at various locations throughout the Division. The Gate Theatre Girls from Units throughout the Division recently took part in a show at the Gate Theatre in Goole. The show was extremely successful and the girls gave three performances. The girls were thrilled that our County Commissioner and the Mayor and Mayoress of Goole attended one of the performances.

The Mayor's Charity Show : The cast from the show at the Gate Theatre were invited to take part in the Mayor's Charity Show. The girls were delighted to support this event.

Guiding Ambassadors : Boothferry Division are pleased to say we now have three Ambassadors, the Mayor of Goole, the Canon of Goole and Mrs Sarah Rockliffe.

Jubilee Events : Our Jubilee celebrations were held during the last weekend in June. A weekend camp for all the Guides in the Division was held at Guideacres, and on the Saturday the Rainbows and Brownies within the Division joined us for an Activity Day.
