"Beach Olympics"
Played on the beach, after
tea and as the sun was going down (hence the declining light as these
photos progress) - it was a very warm evening so no-one minded getting
wet.
I can't remember the names
of any of these games, or indeed if they had any, but at least I have
the photos .... (click on them if you want to see a larger version.)

Game 1 : three
teams of five (can't remember why one girl wasn't taking part,
or who it was) in radiating lines; numbered from the centre.
Groupie calls out number (e.g. "3") - all three number
3's then run round outside of "wheel" and back to
own team then through legs to middle - first to touch helmet
in centre wins. Simple.
|
| Game 2 : variation
on paddle-spinning : same three teams, relay race : first runs
into sea and takes hold of paddle, holds it vertical and spins
round 10 times, drops paddle and runs back to team, doing a somersault
on the sand en route to tag next team member. First team to complete
relay and sit down wins. Lots of dizzily falling in the sea! |

|
Game 3 : again
three teams - first team member had to run towards the sea and
crouch down to form a "speed bump" - next had to run,
jump over her then stop at the water's edge and form a "tunnel"
- next had to jump over the speed bump, crawl through the tunnel
then run on into the water and stop to become a "signpost."
Then it got REALLY silly. Fourth and fifth team members had
to imagine they were lottery winners and run, one at a time,
into the sea (over speed bump, through tunnel and round signpost)
screaming with glee, then imagine they had lost their winning
ticket and make the return journey accordingly ......

Game 4 : almost
back to normality with this one! The teams had to tunnel (with
bare hands) under an upturned SOK and then get all team members
underneath : none actually succeeded, but the team photographed
did manage to at least dig a tunnel right through! |
|
Game 5 : vaguely
reminiscent of musical chairs, except that there was no music
and no chairs.... girls laid out on the beach, heads
towards the sea. Left arms across shoulders of girl to left,
right legs across leg of girl to right. At a given signal ("GO!!"),
leap up and find one of the short pieces of hosepipe scattered
on the sand behind them. There was always one piece less than
the number of girls left in the game - winner was last one left
