Instructions for “Yorkshire Piggy” swap

Since there are actually more pigs than people in the East Riding of Yorkshire,
this seems an appropriate as well as fun swap to make and give!

This swap uses old tights or stockings.

Cut a circle out of a piece of tights and stuff with fibrefill or cotton balls.

Run a line of stitches round the edge and pull gently to bring the edges together at the back to make face plump, but not too tight. Tie off ends of the thread.

Form ears by wrapping thread around base and pulling tight. Tie a knot at the back of each ear to hold.

Make a separate circle for the snout, exactly as for the head but much smaller.

With a needle and thread sew through the snout twice from the back and back down to form nostrils. This also holds the nose on the face.

From the back of the head again, bring the thread up and out at the front where you want the eyes to be. Slide a black seed bead on needle and go back down through same hole, pulling gently to make an eye. Repeat for the other eye.

Embroider a mouth with small stitches, tying off the thread at the back.

Stitch a small safety pin on the back.
